Da CapoConcept app, UX design, Product design TEAM: Individual
ROLE: Product designer
TOOLS: Figma, Photoshop
Da Capo is a practice and mood tracker app, designed to help classical musicians develop a more mindful relationship with their craft. It’s inspired my own experience singing opera and playing piano, which got me thinking of a solution to preserve passion while going through the repetitive motions of regular practice.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Practicing can be stressful, especially when done under strict deadlines and a competitive atmosphere, and this can end up sucking the passion out of musicians. Part of this struggle can be attributed to not understanding what makes practice truly effective and sustainable-- intentional work, delibrate reviewing, and a "quality over quantity" approach.

I challenged myself, “How can I create a practice app that helps musicians with their mental health?”

CREATING CLEAR LO-FI WIREFRAMES

After exploring different layout options, I settled on a simple aesthetic that could clearly communicate data from the practice and mood tracker and repertoire list. I chose to keep the timer function as minimalistic as possible, as to not distract from the act of practicing.

DA CAPO IN ACTION

Reflection

I hope to eventually conduct user research to incorporate their feedback into the app, and then translate the Figma design to code. Working on the whole design process for this challenge was a fun challenge for me, and I'm glad to see my vision actually develop into a product that could help me. This project increased my proficiency in Figma, and helped me understand the role design plays in the product development process.
